job: creation of an icon
intro: Rio Grande do Sul, 1971, Grendene brand birthdate. That time modest factory has become Brazil\’s largest shoes manufacturer today, composed by more than 30 brands. Rider – a well-known sandals line - is one of them. For this project, which would involve play re-design icon (created by a design office which has been facing legal problems due to the unauthorized use of image), the challenge was keeping play features, since the icon has a strong concept and as it pleases everyone. After several attempts, the play icon was embedded in the letter R in Rider, creating a new icon, a sort of stylized eagle. As the icon reminds the viewer of an eagle, it adds movement and energy to it and reminds the viewer of freedom. The developed icon can be applied separately, just the way play icon is applied to the stripe sandals nowadays.
